One Minute Play: Rescue
(LIGHTS UP)
(Two women sit are on the floor of the stage. Toni is dressed in just an tank top and a pair of boy shorts. Melissa is fully clothed. Toni is lying with her head in Melissa’s lap and is clearly agitate. Melissa strokes Toni’s forehead trying to console her.)
TONI
So that’s it?
MELISSA
That’s it.
TONI
And you’re sure the hole’s deep enough?
MELISSA
(Leans over to kiss Toni on the forehead.)
It’s deep enough. Relax.
TONI
I just…I just can’t believe it’s over.
MELISSA
Believe it. Is your suitcase ready?
TONI
I packed it last night.
MELISSA
That’s my girl. (Pause.) You may need to put some pants on.
TONI
Can we just stay here a moment longer? I’m not ready to go yet.
MELISSA
Fine, but just a moment. We still need to get the can of gas from the garage.
TONI
It’ll be such a pretty fire.
MELISSA
(Kissing Toni’s forehead again.)
It sure will be.
